Since Karaites do not follow Rabbinic law, why don't women go up on the Bemah, have aliot, or read from Torah? A) There is no prohibition in the torah that prohibit the women from going to the Bemah. B) If the women to conduct daily prayers, we know that there are days that are not suited for her to conduct the prayers or come to the temple. For that reason it is taken as practice or tradition to avoid having women go to the Bemah. Things are changing slowly back to asking where do you find the prohibition? And where do you find the acceptance. As we relearn the Torah many things will follow what is written and not what is taken in by traditions without knowing where it came from. As Karaites, we will always discuss and debate the meanings of certain things.
Is there a specific order to your Siddur? The Prayer Books were organized years ago by our Hakhamim to include the required Elements. · Giving Thanks to GOD · Singing the Praise · Asking for forgiveness · Silent prayer for self and for the community (Plea to GOD) · Reading the Torah / Haftorah · Making the Zekher · Blessing the congregationRegarding Kashrut, I understand you will have milk with meat but not cook beef in milk. The Issue with Milk and meat is very Simple, In the torah Abraham Cooked meat and Milk and offered them to the angel; From here we know that milk and meat are not prohibited. Now let us examine the sentence you should not boil the kid in its mother milk. This sentence comes 3 times in the torah, each time the topic of the paragraph and sentence is related to offerings. From here we know the meaning had to do with the offerings. Let us discuss the first born offering. You shall offer your first born of all your cattle and redeem your first born. What age or the calf should we offer it? Do we offer it while it is still feeding from its mother cow? No. but else where in the torah it tell us the offering of the Shabbat is two yearling calves. Now we know the age of the calf before it is offered. In addition no to take the calf from its mother as it is caring for it as a mother. Also to make the calf more attachment to the owner so when it is offered it will have more impact and feeling of loss to the owner. Do you have two sets of dishes? No, in Egypt we used to have two set of dishes, one for Passover and the other is for everyday. This is a custom to differentiate between the Passover and all other days. Do you look for a "hechzer" on food packages?Yes, we look for food that is marked with kosher symbols. Yes, we look for food that is marked with kosher symbols.Who determines your Kashrut laws, and what are they? It is the duty of every Karaite to understand the laws; in Israel I believe that the community has their own Butchering and market. In the US each family relies on their own practices, and as we teach and learn more and more we will go back to the proper ways. Regarding "fire" on Shabbat, I understand you do not light any flame or fire on Shabbat, nor have one lit.As the torah indicates we should not have fire in our homes. Most people try to follow as much as they can and follow this commandment. They don't cook on Shabbat. As the torah indicates we should not have fire in our homes. A) One must understand what is Shabbat and what its value to man. On the seventh day GOD rested and enjoyed his creation. Man must realize that the Shabbat is the day to thank GOD for what he has giving us and we need to rest from doing work and we also need to enjoy our work result. B) Here is an actual story. On a Shabbat day Hakham Bobovitch in Egypt at one time found the gate to the temple was closed so he banged on the gate couple of times, then he found out that no one will hear him from that far. So He rang the bell, When asked why did you ring the bell he said is it a lot more work to bang on the door than utilize the bell at ease. One must use his head to accomplish rest and enjoyment of the Shabbat. Everyone must find what is logical that make sense and not abuse the system for his own. It is god that will bless us or punish us. What about driving to the synagogue? I noticed a lot of people drove there, as did I.Again the answer is similar to the Hakham answer to the bell incident.
